JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Downtown drivers are in for a surprise  Wednesday morning after rush hour.  For motorists who are used to getting off the Main Street Bridge and going straight you will now have the option to turn right at Bay Street.

Beginning Wednesday around 10 a.m., crews will remove the orange barrels and flip the switch on the directional signs to indicate that Bay Street between Ocean and Newnan is now a two-way street.

According to Sgt. Leonard Propper with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the change is necessary to help the infrastructure of downtown be more efficient.

Sgt. Propper also told First Coast News that the directional signs have been very effective in helping with the flow of traffic leaving the sports complex area.
